If You Need Chimney or Fireplace Repair Services, We’re the Team to Lean On

Now, we’re a full-service chimney sweep company, so that means we don’t just stop at general inspections and brief sweeping services. We can also complete a long list of repair and installation services, giving you the ability to trust just one reliable crew for all of your chimney-related needs.

If you need any chimney or fireplace repair services, we offer:

  • Masonry Repairs: If your brick and mortar need some TLC, we’ve got the tools and training to help. Trust us for tuckpointing and brick replacement services – and we can restore your chimney crown as well.
  • Chimney Leak Repairs: Leaks and water damage can cause numerous issues throughout a fireplace and chimney system. Rely on us for repair services, as well as preventive maintenance to prevent any current issues from popping up again later.
  • Chimney Cap Installation: Chimney caps do a number of things to keep your system safer, so having one installed and fitted correctly is essential for boosting efficiency and extending the life of your chimney.
  • Waterproofing: By waterproofing your brickwork, you prevent it from soaking in water. This is especially an issue when winter rolls around and the freeze/thaw process occurs.
  • Chase Cover Installation: If you have a prefab system, we can ensure it’s fitted with a durable and reliable chase cover. Most stock models break down quickly, so this isn’t a service to put off.
  • Chimney Damper Repair: Is your damper stuck shut, stuck open, or just giving you problems in general? Let us take a look. We can either repair your throat damper or upgrade it to something better.
  • Lock-Top Damper Installation: Lock-top dampers are installed at the top of the flue, rather than the base, and they’re known for offering a tighter and more reliable seal. They also work with the cap to keep out animals, debris, and excess moisture.
  • Chimney Relining: We can reline your chimney with a stainless steel liner or with one of three HeatShield® methods. No chimney should be without a proper liner, so be sure to trust our techs with this important service.
  • Smoke Chamber Parging: Smoke chamber parging is the process of smoothing out a corbeled or stair-step smoke chamber. This encourages better airflow and reduces creosote buildup.
  • Refractory Panel Installation: If you have a prefab system, properly fitted refractory panels are essential for keeping your fires contained. If yours are loose or were poorly installed, we’d be happy to get you where you need to be.

We Install Stoves & Inserts

We install fireplace inserts if you’re looking to upgrade your current open fireplace, or we can add in a new wood or gas stove for your household to enjoy if that sounds more your style. Every type of system has its pros and cons, and we would be happy to go through them all with you, helping you find the perfect setup for your unique needs.

Need Your Dryer Vents Cleaned?

Finally, don’t neglect your dryer vents. When these become clogged with lint and other debris, they can cause your appliance to function much less efficiently. You could find yourself running multiple cycles just to get one load of laundry dry, which not only puts wear on your clothes, but shortens the life span of the dryer too. And in addition to all that, you can count on your energy bills increasing as well.

Yet, more concerning is the increased risk of fire hazards and gas leaks associated with clogged up dryer vents. Lint is highly flammable, so the last thing you want is for it to clog up next to an appliance that is now overheating due to lack of airflow. And if fumes can’t vent out properly, they’re bound to end up back in your space, meaning your risk of carbon monoxide exposure will go up too.

Book this maintenance annually to avoid further problems. Our Certified Dryer Exhaust Technicians (C-DET) are here to help.

What Are the Different Parts of My Chimney & Fireplace?

Chimneys and fireplaces are complex structures with a lot of different moving parts. And, as a homeowner, being at least somewhat familiar with these components and how they function can help you spot issues early on – and then get them promptly addressed. So, what are the main parts of your system – and what is their job?

Well, first things first, remember that there are different types of fireplaces, meaning these components can vary based on your fuel type or whether you have a prefab system or a masonry one. That said, most fireplaces and chimneys should have the following:

  • Firebox: This is where the fires actually burn, so whether your firebox is built from refractory panels or firebrick, it needs to be able to withstand high heat and direct contact with flames.
  • Hearth: This is the area directly in front of the firebox, usually made from stone, brick, or concrete. It’s meant to protect the surrounding area from high heat, flames, and stray sparks.
  • Smoke Chamber: The smoke chamber is the area that helps funnel smoke and fumes up out of your firebox and safely into the flue opening. Without this area, smoke would bounce back into your home or just linger and cause buildup.
  • Chimney Flue: The flue is the actual passage through which the smoke travels to exit your home safely. It can be clay tile, metal, or concrete, and it needs to be free of clogs and damage to do its job effectively.
  • Chimney Cap: Your cap will sit on the top of your flue, acting as a barrier to keep out water, snow, birds, woodland critters, and debris. They also block downdrafts and can stop sparks from landing on your roof.
  • Chimney Crown: If you have a masonry chimney, you’ll need a concrete crown at the top of your system. These assist the cap in keeping out outside elements, and they help to direct water away from the sides of the brick chimney too.
  • Chimney Chase: For prefabricated chimneys, they need a protective barrier to keep the venting materials protected. The chase is an exterior structure that surrounds the chimney to prevent damage.
  • Chase Cover: Like a chimney crown protects the masonry sides, the chase cover protects the sides of the chase, directing water out and away from it. It also helps to cover the chimney opening, keeping the interior system safer.
  • Chimney Liner: Your chimney liner ensures the walls of the chimney don’t face corrosion or decay from heat exposure and acidic fumes. It also ensures smoke and fumes can efficiently escape.
  • Chimney Damper: The damper is essentially a movable plate that can help you regulate airflow when using your fireplace, then shuts tightly to keep out downdrafts (and to keep your indoor air regulated) when you aren’t.
  • Ash Dump: Some wood-burning systems are equipped with an ash dump, which is a small door at the base of the firebox that aids in the removal of fireplace ash and any other debris.
Chimney Anatomy

That’s a lot, right? Most assume their fireplace is just a firebox to build a fire, a chimney for fumes to escape, and… that’s pretty much it. That isn’t the case at all. In fact, there are numerous parts, all of which have important jobs and all of which need to be in tip-top condition to keep your system operating safely and efficiently.

Give us a call today, so we can inspect your system and ensure all things are looking good.

What Are Common Types of Chimney & Fireplace Damage?

We’ve covered the parts that make up your chimney and fireplace, but what specific types of damage should homeowners be looking out for?

  • Crumbing or missing mortar joints
  • Gaps or cracking throughout the masonry
  • Rust throughout the metal components (like the chimney cap or flashing)
  • A damaged or missing chimney cap
  • Water pooling in your firebox
  • A cracked or deteriorated chimney crown
  • Any signs of animals or nesting materials in the flue
  • Signs of creosote buildup or chimney fires
  • Stains or discoloration throughout the masonry
  • Staining on the walls or ceiling surrounding the chimney
  • Signs of rot or decay on adjacent woodwork
  • Mold or mildew growth
  • Damaged or warped fireplace doors
  • Loose or discolored refractory panels
  • Cold air or downdrafts coming through the chimney

You’ll also want to be wary of smoke escaping the chimney anywhere it shouldn’t be, as well as any strange smells. These can indicate a number of issues, such as clogs, water damage, or even animals in your flue. You’ll also want to note any types of inefficiency. In other words, if you’re not getting good heat output, or if you are having difficulty starting fires, call us in to take a look.
